10 Lessons from David Ogilvy's books, the father of advertising, for writers.

David Ogilvy is a well-known figure in the advertising world. There's much that marketers and advertisers can learn from him. However, writers can also pick up a thing or two.

Much of the advice he gave and things he discovered are equally applicable to us writers.

For example, the job of the headline is to get the reader to read the opening paragraph.

That's true whether you're talking about an ad, an email, a book, or a landing page.

    Good list. Here's another one of my favorite Ogilvy quotes:

    “Tell the truth, but make the truth fascinating. You cannot bore people into buying your product; you can only interest them in buying it.”

    I've realized the importance of talking about benefits over features - it works like a charm!

      Yes! That was what I was hoping for.

      Yeah, good point. The smarter you are, the easier it's to forget that you MUST translate your features into benefits for the consumer.

      That's essentially what marketing is all about in some sense.
