3 Dead-Simple Ways To Amplify Your Content

Creating content is about 30% of the work. The remaining 70% is amplifying it.

Here are 3 dead-simple tips on how to do it:

Tip #1: Import your blog posts into Medium and contribute them to Medium publications

I write all my blog posts on my website but I then import them to Medium. Once they’re on Medium, I contribute them to Medium publications.
This way the source of the content is on my website but I get to use Medium as an amplification device.

Right now I contribute my writing to the following two Medium publications:

  1. Start it up
  2. Product Coalition

Tip #2: Distribute your content manually to individuals.

In the early days of content distribution, it’s worth noting down who expresses interest in a piece of content you’re writing or a topic you’re talking about on social media.

For example, someone on Twitter expressed an interest in how I self-published my book last year. So when I wrote a retrospective article on how I did it, I sent them the article once I published it.

This does three things:

  1. Distributes your content (duh.)
  2. Helps you build a 1:1 connection with someone.
  3. Gives you an opportunity for valuable 1:1 feedback.

It's important to do things that don't scale, especially in the early days of your content journey.

Tip #3: Repurpose parts of your content on other platforms.

Copying and pasting all your content to multiple platforms doesn’t work. But what you can do is take a part of a blog post, video or email newsletter and post it on another platform.

I recently decided to repurpose a part of an old Writerpreneur issue on Indie Hackers. I literally couldn’t believe I got on the first page of Indie Hackers for a few days!

My post on Indie Hackers has gotten 1,472 views, 27 comments and 47 votes (and counting.) Not bad at all!

All from spending 15min repurposing a past newsletter issue. Exciting stuff.

Indie Hackers even followed me on Twitter after that! 🤩

Thanks for the tips! Re #1, do these publications often pick up your articles? And do you have any metrics around how many views or new subscribers it brings in?

    1. 2

Both of the publications randomly ended up finding my articles. But you can apply to them directly and that's what I plan to do with some other publications.

I don't have stats on how many subscribers these articles have brought in, also because I don't advertise my newsletter in every one of them. But I do see all the views. You can check out the stats for all my Medium articles I submitted to publications in the exact past issue of my newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/863b97649cb5/3-big-mistakes-from-my-entrepreneurial-journey-5560780.

Thank you for sharing these tips. Cross-posting to medium seems like a great idea which often goes unnoticed.

I'd also encourage you to submit your Medium stories to Medium publications. It's a really good distribution channel too.

I didn't know these were different things. I will definitely take a look!

  3. 2

Thank you for the concise breakdown! I've been going back and forth between self-hosting my content or publishing to Medium but never considered "both"! So obvious but just sat in a blindspot.

Steph Smith talks about this in her book Doing Content Right and swears by this method too. It's a good one. :)

Thanks for this! Going to try out #2

I've been doing #2 a lot recently and it's not scalable but it really works in the early days. For example I just got a new YouTube subscriber (who also commented on my first video) because I manually distributed it to them knowing they would really benefit from it.

Thanks for the tips! I recently launched a new blog and was looking for ways to gain exposure.
