3 Reasons You Should Have an Explainer Video!

  1. It’s digestible: It’s an easily digestible way for someone to learn about your product. Plus, reading a long landing page can be draining. Oftentimes people would rather watch a 30-90 second video to understand your product.

  2. It’s shareable: Have a growing social media presence? (or at least want to?) Explainer videos are easy to share to your own social media accounts and it make it easier for others to share to theirs!

  3. It’s underutilized: Oftentimes explainer videos can set you apart from competitors. Your target audience has probably been researching your product (and others like it) for longer than they’d like. Having an explainer video adds a level of professionality to your site and sets you apart from the rest!

Example explainer video for my new startup

Are there are other reasons you can think of? Do share!

You are correct on all your points. One little extra tip, I checked the youtube link you shared, and you are not really targetting keywords at all on that video, if you really want to squeze the juice out of it you should add long keyword tags, such as "how to remove my online data" and things like that. 😉

That's definitely something I didn't focus on when putting the video up, thanks for the tip!!

Hard to keep track of everything sometimes. Glad to help :D

Other co-founder here! It's funny, I've run dozens and dozens of sites over the past decade or so, and have never even given a thought of developing an explainer video. When Kyle mentioned creating one, and the reasoning above, I was a bit apprehensive. However, the final product is fantastic, and is a strong elevator pitch for what it is that we specifically do.

Tacking onto the Digestible aspect above, our service Removaly can seem a bit complicated, and to be honest it is. Having an explainer video was a stellar exercise to really dig deep on what it is that we actually provide to end users, and why our resources are important.

  3. 2

    The video looks really great,
mind sharing what did you use to create it?

    1. 2

We used a freelancer who made it in Adobe After Effects 👍

For maxcalling, our take on hw sales app should feel like, we have decided not to have a tutorial or video at all. That's turning out to be a tough task. But that if we say it's a super easy sales app, it better be super easy to figure out.

    1. 1

Good perspective, though part of the way you can make something "super easy to figure out" is by having an explainer video 🙂

  5. 2

Absolutely - even if it's low production value, it can make a big impact.

I also love video sales letters for more service/sales oriented funnels :-)

    1. 1

Exactly! Doesn't have to be fancy. We got one on the higher end, but you can certainly have a less expensive one made or even do it yourself.

  6. 2

Valuable points. I'll keep this in mind 😎

  7. 2

That's a really clean video you got! How did you make it? Or who made it?

    1. 1

We used a freelancer who made it in Adobe After Effects 👍

    Loom all the things 🎸

@kylekrzeski I made a terrible one to explain my product

    But I guess it's a start 😆

  9. 2

How did you create your video ?

    1. 2

We hired someone to make it, but there are also softwares like doodly, moovly, etc. where you can make them yourself if you're on a budget or are just interested in learning to do it yourself.

  10. 2

We use Explainer Video as onboarding for our console.
    Works well for newcomers

    1. 2

Using them for onboarding is another awesome use case for them!

  11. 2

I totally agree! a video is the best way to communicate.
I even did a small service that help me to have video + subtitle + speech + music for my landing pages. (very basic but better than nothing I guess)

    https://video.listws.com

The service is up and running for small videos, but I don't promote this service a lot because I am planning to port this to the client site, media transfers and processing on the cloud is resources killer and the ux is horrible!

Sounds reasonable. BTW, one of my contacts, a media designer is currently looking for interesting projects who need an explainer video (willing to do it either for free or a small fee, for her portfolio). Feel free to get in touch for details.
