Launched a new SaaS startup! $0 MRR 🇺🇸

Hey guys, You know me already as a founder of Gglot and ConveyThis, but you didn't know that I've just launched a new startup called Doc Translator. I'd like you to try it out as it is 100% free and there is no paywall.

What is Doc Translator after all? It's an online Document Translation service that translates MS Word documents in .docx format into any language. It preserves the layout, fonts, formatting, images, etc. So you will essentially receive an identical version of your original document, but in a foreign language.

I hope this will be a useful service as it helps you to save lots of time and money. Isn't it?

Let me know your thoughts. I need feedback.

Interesting! What’s the backend tech to translate?

    1. 1

It's still Google Translate. The best machine translator so far.

      1. 3

That's not true. The best machine translator is Deepl.com

        1. 1

Have proof on that? Would be curious to see why you think that. Maybe certain language pairs are better but def not as a whole? Super interested to hear why!

          1. 2

            Answered my own question: https://www.deepl.com/quality.html

            Pretty cool tool ☺️

      2. 1

Awesome, yep it’s definitely hard to compete with Google MT. Best of luck with the project!

Interesting, is this basically a wrapper for processing docx files and converting text in run nodes. I'm assuming you're following ooxml spec, docx has been picking up quite a bit it seems as well, cool to see this. I'm assuming this would automate that manual process correct? cool to see

    1. 1

Yes, you need to develop a good wrapper first in order to parse DOC files. I am not sure about the exact way to do it, but that's the direction you should take if you want to compete with me.

      1. 1

lol nah, no interest in building this

  3. 2

What would you say is the quality of translation?

Or at least, what underlying service are you using for translation?

    1. 2

As a bi-lingual person, I found the quality of the translation as very good, approximately 90% accurate.
If you correct the other 10% by hand, you will achieve huge time savings.

      1. 1

Switch to Deepl.com. That gives you 99% accuracy out of the box.

        1. 1

If they customers will be willing to pay more for it, we will switch. In the meantime, Google does a great job.

          1. 1

I would definitely pay to get much better results. Could be a good argument for a Pro plan.

            1. 2

Yes, there is a paying market among German users who would willing to pay for DeepL upgrade. However, the rest of the world such as Indonesia, Philippines, Bangladesh won't need it and will never upgrade. That's the consideration to keep in mind.

How does it work with Finnish? It's pretty hard :D

    1. 1

Yes, Finnish and all Scandinavian languages are fully supported. You are welcome to give it a try!

  5. 1

Congratulations on launching! Now I can easily read my Japanese workbooks :))

    1. 1

Yes, absolutely. Enjoy reading Japanese workbooks in your own language!))

  6. 1

    Congrats on launching!

Small bit of feedback though. Perhaps there's a better image you could have on the homepage rather than a person? For example of a picture of the different formats you support.

    1. 1

Great feedback. This is stock image that came with a template for now.
Once we gain some traction, we will think of ways to make the landing page more elaborate.

You have used a picture of a West Point (Army) football game. What is your connection?

    1. 1

Interesting comment. Can you send a link to this image?

      1. 2

Google Army Navy game for images.
