☀️ 5 Summer Startup Ideas

Happy belated Independence Day 🇺🇸 to my startup friends south of the border. We hope you cooked up some mean BBQs this past weekend. If you're catching up on emails, here's still some startup ideas you can impress your zoom dates with as you catch up this week. Top the mimosas, cue the country music and let's dive in: 🍹

⚒ Featured Startup Ideas:

1. Board of Directors Search Engine

What is it: A board of directors search platform that helps startups find external board members who have operating experience (not investors).

It would allow you to search by:

  • Industry
  • Who has taken a company to a particular scale (show me operators who’ve been at late-stage - SaaS companies or those who’ve been involved in an IPO)
  • Specific functions (people with product management experience)
  • Particular geographies (experience working in Brazil)

If it can search for diverse potential BoDs, even better.

If you’ve got thoughts or seen companies doing this, ping me.

2. Airbnb Camping

What is it? A solid cash flowing asset idea that doesn't require a lot of maintenance.

Allow us to present: Airbnb for Camping by Justin Mares.

Airbnb for Camping by Justin Mares.

Here's how it works:

  • Buy a plot of land in a popular area
  • Supply the bare bones space, tents, toiletries, and sewage for people to Airbnb off of
  • Capture great photos, promote it, hack the reviews and make it one of the top spots to camp that's affordable and a fun space to enjoy

Signals:

  • Could likely get 30% cash on cash returns
  • Tons of demand
  • Supply constrained
  • You'er gonna get bookings, scale really easy, lots of venture dollars going into making this a thing
  • Needs a hustler someone younger that can care about making this idea happen

3. TogetherLetters: Social updates without social media.

The breakdown? Social media gets you a torrent of updates but not always the group sharing you need. We're building a service that allows an individual to create a group to solicit updates which are shared with the group through a regular newsletter.

Group members just need an email address and don't need to create (or maintain) an account. Importantly updates are never available on the web and shared with a group through email only making the service pro-privacy.

Service is up and running at togetherletter.com but looking for feedback.

4. Subscription Warranty Organizer App

What it is: A subscription or warranty organizer app is a unique startup mobile app idea that can make you earn big.

This type of app can help people to manage their online subscriptions and membership plans. It can also remind people about the warranty expiration date. They can relieve themselves from the hassle of remembering the dates.

5. Recruiting via Twitter

What it is: I'm hiring for multiple roles and there are interesting signals I can use to identify whether someone is looking for a new gig - primarily if they recently changed their bio and removed their employer or changed to "ex-engineer at (insert company name)"

Sync this up with LinkedIn to sort candidates by experience and role.
