Anything You Want by Derek Sivers is one of my favorite business books that I pick up every year to learn something new. Here are 7 takeaways I love and remind myself about.
To build a business you need to be useful. You can be useful today and it doesn’t need much. Start and be useful to someone.
You don’t need a perfect idea. Okayish idea is fine. Execution is far more important and it’s something you can control and improve by deliberate practice. Focus on that.
Big clients are harder to please and more painful to lose. Lot’s of small clients bring more flexibility, safety, and you remain to be the boss. There's no big guy who you need to please.
In the beginning, when there's no progress it will be so hard to stick with it if you don't love what you do.
There are always more options to get where you want to go. When stuck, be flexible in your mind.
The world is big. There’s plenty for everyone. Find your people, serve them well, and proudly exclude everyone else. Trying to please everyone is the road to being vague, gray, and boring.
Pay attention to what drains you and what excites you.
Have a great day and let me know if you have any questions.
I like the last point. Excitement is important indeed.
Thank you. :) I noticed it helps to get my ass out of the bed in the morning as well. :D
Truly wonderful post.
Thanks. 🙇♂️
