Hi there!
A recurrent advice I got when showing my project home page is to add an explanatory video.
I went for it, and I think I've been able to get nice 5 seconds summary of what the app does.
But to do so, I ended up recording the screen and just doing some edits using the captured videos and screenshots. I am no video expert and other options felt too complicated.
It works, but I see some drawbacks, the main one being that any UX change I make from now on will outdate the video.
Is there a simple tool to built this kind of simple "mockup" videos?
I was thinking on something like https://balsamiq.com/ that could export to video.
I've seen a recommendation for videoscribe in https://www.indiehackers.com/post/video-98ca3f33cc?commentId=-M11blJbuJgel8zsQeJ0, but not exactly what I was looking for.
This doesn't (yet) solve the problem of keeping mockup videos up to to date, but I've built MockRocket.io which can add a layer of professionalism to app mockup videos. You can drag in a screen capture and place it on the screen of a 3D device and it's designed to be easy to use
Personally, I don't think there is such a tool you're looking for.
The fact that a UI change will "invalidate" the video -- that's just a fact of life. You'll need to redo it 😁
The trick is to:
P.S. While developing my app, I've probably redone the tutorials 4 times over. It is what it is. Hope this helps😎
I'm using Canva. It may serve your purposes. The free plan is quite powerful and complete with export options include Video, GIF, PDF, etc.
