98 upvotes on HN, 200+ subs

So I submitted Growthunt to HackerNews over the weekend, picking Sunday morning (US Time) to unveil my 4 weeks old site.

Here is the result:

5.24K in New Users to site
300+ new subscribers

Was quite an intimidating experience when some users started criticizing the site design and the name of my site (will get into this later!), but overall a very good lesson and of course, the increase in new subscribers. :)

if they hate then let 'em hate and watch the signups pile up.

300 people didn't care about your name. focus on them.

Yes - 300 signups means people find this valuable. Ignore the hate!

    This is amazing, congratulations, Yun!!

Would love it if you can add RSS feed?

    Awesome stuff, @yunsn!

Also, there is no way you don't get hate on Hacker News - there are a lot of cynics out there. 😂

It's not as warm as IH.

      Thanks @adityasg13

So true. I thought Reddit is the worse:/

Great engagement, don't care about hate, the point of posting there is to get people to talk about it, and you got it well!

Curious whether you did engage on HackerNews before to get that engagement?

Hey! Thanks for the kind words!

No engagement at all. I'm in the same time zone as you so it was after dinner time. I posted it without much hope of it getting so many upvotes and was surprised to get the results the next morning.

Nice. Why did you pick Sunday morning?

Yes, the name Growthunt is bad. You can do better. I just came up with "growthdawg.com" — and it's available. Then use a dog as your mascot and as illustrations to theme your site.

Also, as for people on hacker news, try to learn from the haters, instead of letting it bother you. Good luck, bro!

I'm not a native English speaker, why is Growthunt bad? Does it sound weird or something like that? It seems fine to me...

By the way, is the name "Growthunt" so bad?

    Please advise!

Like it but 1% of chance people will write growthhunt.com in browser and land on other site... Other then your content is really king.
Is this website built with pory?

      1. 1

Same. People will be confused a lot trying to find growthhunt.com & they get a 404.

So I'd suggest change it if you can because the content is really nice as most articles are fillers & I like this TL;DR on growth :)

Thanks for the kind words! I'm seriously considering right now
