A Lesson on the Value of Critique

It's easy to get frustrated when people question and challenge your ideas, especially when you're a designer and pour your heart into your work. I know when I was a younger designer, I often had a hard time taking criticism. I would receive it as if the critic was attacking my ability instead of the specific design being discussed.

A mentor of mine told me something that has really helped me let go of my ego and reframe receiving critique.

If you're not being asked to explain and defend your decisions, the decisions you're being asked to make are not difficult enough.

Critique makes us better. And if people care enough to offer feedback on something I'm lucky enough to be working on, that's something I'm now incredibly grateful for.
