Ideas and Validation July 23, 2020

A Saas for seniors to preserve their legacy for future generations.

After realizing that I know next to nothing about my grandparents I thought of creating a website where people can preserve their legacy for future generations. The basic product is that the user will be asked guided questions about the different chapters of their life (early childhood, school, career, family, etc) to create the story of their life. Additionally they will be able to create digital photo albums and write stories about their life. They will also be able to add family members to create their family tree.
All this information will then be consolidated into a timeline of their life which can be viewed by friends/family members.

I've been seeing everywhere that ideas should be validated before being built so here I am (with a mostly functioning prototype, but better late than never I say).

What do you think about this idea?

  1. 1

That sounds like a very neat idea definitely a good data harvester but having this front end gives me an idea how you could move this to the next level actually out of this world type level.

    1. 1

      Care to elaborate?

      1. 1

Well yes sure I think with all the data your users are going to provide through your frontend which I assume you already got you might be able to do potentially far more with it and offer something very special. Just drop me a PM or email me at [email protected] I can tell you more what I had in mind and you can tell me what you think.

  2. 1

I like the idea. Are the profiles going to be public or are they only accessible by family members?

    1. 1

By default the way people will view information about the user is by the user adding emails as family members. Additionally, the user can define certain pieces of the information as public so that they can share certain aspects with friends with the rest remaining private.

  3. 1

Hey, I love this idea. I have been working on creating a physical record tracking my family history and life. I love your idea - to provide this as an online tool for all.
Are you looking for someone to work on this with you? If so, I would like to be a part of it.
    LMK.

    1. 1

What sort of partnership do you have in mind?

      1. 1

I would like to help you develop and offer my ideas.

        1. 1

I've pretty much finished developing the site at this point so I'm not really looking for help in that department at the moment. Contact me at [email protected] and let's see if we can work something else out.

  4. 1

Sounds good. who are your competitors and whats your business plan?

    1. 1

As far as I can tell, there's one competitor out there that provides a similar service, but the site is very difficult to use and is ridden with bugs.
In summary, there are three ways that I plan on marketing this product.

      1. Directly to seniors (the target market) - this will probably be a bit difficult since they're not so technologically inclined and usually need more help learning how to use a digital product
      2. To younger people who want to learn more about their elderly parents/grandparents
      3. To old age homes (this can be equated to the traditional "business" pricing card) who can use the product as an activity for their tenants.
      1. 1

I’d go with 3), I’d imagine old folks homes always look for new activities for their tenants

      2. 1

Off my head, IMO No(3) is the way to go. You can market your service as an upsell to offerings from old people's homes and do an income-sharing.
For No(2), you can market a digital will (for social media accounts). What happens to your social media accounts/footprint/assets when you pass on?
