A week πŸ“… after Just Fucking Shipping πŸš€

A week ago I posted "Learning to Just Fucking Ship πŸš€": https://www.indiehackers.com/post/3161223d94 wherein I launched my first product.

What's happened since then?

Countless conversations with people here, on Reddit, and via email.

30 commits.

18 deployments.

A new pricing model: Prepaid now instead of monthly.

And, most importantly...

My first customer!! 😊

It's been an amazing time.

A part of me never believed even 1 customer would be possible.

But now that doubtful part of me has been proved wrong.

The future looks bright.

There's a lot to learn, and a lot to iterate on.

Today I'll be outlining out my next product.

Here's hoping I'll be able to ship it faster than the first one.

To all of you who read my posts and left me such wonderful comments: THANK YOU SO MUCH! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

To be more specific:

Thank you @chuckgreenman ! πŸ˜ƒ
Thank you @markonikolic ! πŸ˜ƒ
Thank you @nhsu11 ! πŸ˜ƒ
Thank you @PawelDubiel ! πŸ˜ƒ

Thank you @standupbot ! πŸ˜ƒ
Thank you @benparsell ! πŸ˜ƒ

And thank you everyone who took the time to read and check out my product, even if you didn't comment.

Your time is valuable and I really appreciate that you decided to spend a bit of it with the thing I made.

This community has been amazingly encouraging, and I really appreciate being a part of it.

If you're heads-down working on something that hasn't seen the light of day yet, I encourage you to ship it sooner and show it to us.

I feel so much less isolated and so much more encouraged after posting here.

JUST FUCKING SHIP! πŸš€

P.S. Thanks to @amyhoy and @alexhillman for everything you do and write. I wouldn't have the JFS bug without you guys.

P.P.S. If anybody out there needs an automated screenshot API, I'm your guy πŸ˜‰ Check out Site to Image: http://sitetoimage.com

Nice work! Congrats on customer numero uno. That's huge. Now for two through 1,000,000!

    1. 1

Hahaha, thanks! :D Yep, that's the plan :)

  2. 3

    πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ YAY FIRST CUSTOMER!

Congrats Tyler, and well done :)

    1. 1

The man himself! Thanks Alex :)

  3. 2

    Yeah, shipping is great!

One thing they helped me with a bit was giving me a nudge to just do my emails manually instead of endlessly trying to construct a perfect automated sequence.

I'll still automate them, and the ones I used to ship will be starting point.

    1. 2

Ah, yeah, an automated email sequence is one of those things that can feel like a "must have" but it really isn't, great advice :)

Also, much respect to you on making programming language videos! Originally that's the direction I started going (with videos on TypeScript) but I just couldn't keep my motivation up long enough to produce a whole product. It's a lot harder than it seems, and you seem to have way more grit sticking with it than I did. I wish you much success with your Elixir videos!

Wow! That's freaking awesome! Good job, @tylerchurch!! This is such an inspiration for all of us out there! Thanks for sharing your journey and I'm super excited to see what's coming next!

    1. 2

Hey, thank you so much! :D

I'm excited to see what's coming next too! Might be the beginning of a long slog, we'll see πŸ˜›

  5. 2

Good stuff! I love seeing the feedback we give as a community actually being implemented and shaping the products we see here on IH. :) Congrats on your first customer too!

    1. 1

      Thank you so much! :)

  6. 2

    Awesome attitude :)
Best of luck growing your product!

    1. 1

Thank you so much, I appreciate it! :)

  7. 2

Keep up the good work! I really like your follow up post that builds on your previous post.

Initially I was concerned about your new pricing model but I think it makes a lot more sense this way especially for your own cost control.

PS. I may borrow your "indie hack" of thanking individuals in your post as it gets people to read your post from their notifications/email.

    1. 1

Thanks! I'm glad you're liking the posts! It's a new feeling having people actually read the words I write πŸ˜›

Yeah, it seems to make more sense from the customer perspective too. A number of people I've talked to have more of a sporadic use-case in mind, so a monthly commitment is a big hurdle for them. I'm hoping prepaid moves Site to Image into the "no brainer" category for them.

I may bring back monthly plans if the future if somebody wants to guarantee dedicated capacity or something, but that's a pipe dream at this point.

P.S. Hahaha, hey so long as we get more genuine gratitude in the world, steal away, man. I've noticed my outlook on life consistently improves the more thankful I am. The notification thing is a nice side-benefit, though. I'm hoping no body perceives it as spammy, because I really am grateful for all the interactions I've had over the last few days. I feel so much less isolated now.
