Announcing my first book: Tech debt is like...

Today I'm publishing the landing page for my first book/course project: Tech debt is like..., a book to help engineers get their point across effectively, convince stakeholders of their ideas, and finally get the business to agree to invest in that tech debt work or architecture project their team needs to tackle.

This is the first time I'm working on a project in public. I'll be following @adamwathan's recipe that he borrowed from Authority from @nathanbarry. The thing that pushed me to start (after years of wanting to) was Adam's friend's idea of a tripwire product, something small to get some experience launching something and make a bigger project feel a lot more doable.

To stick to it, I scheduled daily writing to-dos, weekly interview goals, and regular email updates, to avoid spending time planning instead of executing.

I'll consider it a success if I complete it, learn from it, and start another, more ambitious project after it.

Good luck on your project :)

Definitely consider launching a success. I failed to launch 2 projects because I was planning too much. When I stopped worrying so much about details and launched iconsizer I've learned a lot of things and now everything looks a lot more doable :)

Right - striking the right balance between planning and executing is hard. Thanks for the support.

This is a skill I wish someone would have taught me about years ago. Looking forward to seeing where this goes!

Thanks - same here, I wish I had been better at it early.

I have experienced this problem first hand. Getting non-technical people to understand technical debt is extremely difficult, it's good to see someone trying to tackle it. Best of luck with it

Definitely - I've had some success but it'll be interesting to hear from others as I continue to research the book.

    Good luck with the book!
