Any good discord/slack channels for indie hackers?

Steven Kim @stevenkkim

Anyone know of good discord or slack channels to follow for indie hackers looking to chat, meet others, share ideas, get feedback, etc?

      Looks promising, thanks!

@stevenkkim I'd love to host you on our daily growth calls (every weekday 7:30AM PST and M+W 5PM PST).

To be totally transparent, we'll become a paid membership group by mid or end September. Anyway, you have still more than 1mo of calls and tips free ;)

Please shoot me an email to [email protected] if you have problems joining or if there is something more specific, I can help you with your idea/startup. I'm here to help!

          Sounds good, Signed up!

Thanks @rishisiva . If you've time and are interested, join today 5PM PST our Value Proposition Design workshop ;)

Shoot me an email or DM if you need onboarding help or whatever!

Thanks for the reply! I checked out your website and have a few questions:

          • So there are 7 calls per week? Do members join all the calls or just some?
          • How many members are typically on a call, and is it a round-robin format?
          • Are the calls required? I was seeking more of an async chat format where I could come and go on my own schedule, but I get the value of scheduled calls too.
          • Do you have an idea of how much you plan to charge in the future?

Btw, I used to be part of a couple of different mastermind groups a while ago, but they fizzled out.

This is good feedback for the website! I'll take profit of it for our future FAQ section and improve the copy. Thanks!! Here are my answers:

            • Yes. 7 calls. Monday to Friday 7:30 AM PST (5). Then Monday and Wednesday 5PM PST (2).
            • Depending on the day. The begining of the week is more crowded and you can find 8-12 users. By the end of the week the number shrinks to 3-2. Sometimes there is just me or the other mentor waiting for people, usually Fridays is the day with nobody. Average is 5-6 people.
            • Regarding the format: new members have preference to have tips and problem-solve their challenges. But yes, it is round-robin. Not everybody joins to have advice, we have members joining just to provide advice and others that just join the call to learn and they don't talk. You can join and do whatever works best for you depending on your day.
            • The calls are not required but is central in our Value Proposition, meaning that is our differential point from other networks and where our members are finding the value. The text chats are not so much used so far as the calls. For an async conversation, I'm working on using circle, playgroup or geneva, but that is yet to come. If you look for an async conversation, I think IndieHackers is your best bet ;)
            • We're going to charge 45$/mo. This will include the access to the calls, resources (we have vetted and custom resources for early-stage) and (if we deploy it because the members require it) the async conversarion in a community tool like circle.so.

I would encourage you to join and try, you don't have nothing to lose ;)

As said, let me know if you want to jump in a 1:1 call. I'll be happy to solve your questions and/or help with your ideas/projects.

Sounds good, I'll give it a shot 👍

@pliao39 runs a very good Zoom session every other Saturday that has a number of serious technology entrepreneurs. There is an associated discord channel as well.

      Thanks for the recommendation!

Yes, they don't call it a Slack there, but that is what they use.

        1. 1

          Thanks! Will check it out!

Hey @stevenkkim. We have a niche group of creators and entrepreneurs at Startup Sanctuary. Feel free to check it out and see if it is up your street.

https://mailinglisthackers.com/chat is the discord for mailing list hackers. will eventually be part of the paid annual membership, but we're growing the discord right now (~20 people in it at the moment) so it's free to join. if you're into mailing lists/newsletters, join us! we're going to begin hosting meetups & talks inside of the discord soon too, so it's a really exciting time to join!

Interesting, I will check it out. I was looking for a more general chat for indie hackers, but specific topics could be interesting too. Do you have an idea of how much you plan to charge in the future?

      1. 1

totally get it! a lot of our members are IH folk, and you're welcome to post about whatever you'd like in the #lounge, but it is definitely oriented towards people building lists.

as for pricing, not 100% confirmed yet but shooting for a launch price of $50/year. will include access to content, past meetups/events, and a bunch of other stuff too. probably will continue to increase the price as more members join and we have more content to offer! open to feedback on it though too :)

        1. 1

$50/year seems reasonable to me, assuming the value is there. Are you targeting email marketers (e.g. email is marketing channel to sell a product) or newsletter businesses (e.g. the newsletter IS the product i.e. substack) or both?

          1. 1

hey! honestly, both – i personally do a mix of both (newsletter/emails as marketing for events i put on) but consider the newsletter to be a big product on its own. my unscientific guess is that most people in the chat have newsletter-as-products right now, but i'm really interested in digging into more email-as-marketing stuff as i make more content, interview ppl, etc.

great questions.... you should really join :) haha

Sounds good, I'll check it out!
