Just received a demo request from a top university!
Received this demo request from the IT systems manager at a top university which ranks among top 3 in the country. Any suggestions for the online demo please let me know? Will be helpful.
If your product gives clients the ability to change branding then use the clients logo / branding for the demo - people place a greater value on things once they have established ownership
Same with data, if you need to mock up data for a demo try and get some real life looking demo data from their website. Even if it's just titles and images.
Make sure you understand what they want to see from the demo and have a basic demo script which covers all the areas
Based on what they want to see, try and think of any awkward questions they may asked and answers to them
Have this script / playbook / list written down that you can tick off so you don't miss anything
If you product can't do something they require don't just say "no" or "it can't do that" and move on. This is a great time to find out what the actual issue / requirement is
Be ready to go off piste when questions are asked then just jump back to your playbook
Go SLOW (this goes for talking as well). Screens shares don't update as fast as your monitor
Practise on whatever platform you are going to use to demo (I'm guessing screen-share via Google Meet / Teams / Zoom)
Relax - try to treat it like you are showing a friend your product, if you are relaxed you will come across more confident
Let people ask questions as you go and let them know this before you start - you can always defer some questions until after the presentation (You should write the question down and bring it up)
Try and get feedback or a follow up meeting straight away - there response will also help gauge how the demo went
I've done far too many client demos at old jobs, there are a ton more tips I can't think of right now. I'll edit this if I think of any more.
Congrats!
A few quick tips demo wise:
