Anyone been able to validate if customers would pay (not just need) a subscription for their SASS product before build?

Wondering if anyone has had any success in finding a way to validate if customers would pay for their SASS product. I know with may products people use pre-orders but unsure of how/if this can be something done for a subscription SASS product that hasn’t been built.

Bonus question: if you have, how soon after was the launch of your product?
