Anyone using link building tactics that aren't just spammy?

We're all aware of the impact that links can have on search rankings. But with so many similar guides on there, it seems like there are a lot of spammy tactics out there.

I'm trying to uncover some tactics that are more friendly to webmasters. I think there's a lot for SEOs to learn from how the cold email lead gen process has been optimized via courses like cold email mastery.

For example, I like to start a conversation with the people behind the sites and get to know them before I ever ask them to swap a link out for my post or ask for the guest post guidelines.

What do you guys think of this? Would be cool to hear any other frameworks that SEOs are using that are doing something different than just spamming 100 emails a day with the skyscraper approach.

@jamesmarkewen, I literally released a course on this today, haha.

Also, I wrote about one non-spammy backlink strategy here on IH previously.

Fortunately or unfortunately, most of the people having success with outreach are really just creating an arbitrage.

Hey, I guest for for site A, and i can get you a link to your site B if you link to my site C.

Then, when they write for site B, they get a link to another person (site D), who then gives them a link to their site, etc.

And around it goes until the snake eats its own tail.

If I'm going to do outreach, it's going to be to kickstart links to posts that build links on autopilot because the searcher's intent is to find a resource to link to.

Man love your work (esp the newsletter), and I've already signed up for your course 🙌

Yeah, it's scary how much of SEO has become link swaps/exchanges. You can tell by the increase in requests for them relative to the multiple guest post requests we all get daily that more and more people are doing it 😅

Excited to see your strategies that could fix that!
