Hey there Indie App developers.
I was wondering what everyone was using to gather feedback on their app.
More specifically, on what you should built next.
I have several times been in the situation of a launched app on the Play/App store, with a few regular users, but no idea on what part of my app they like or where they would like to see improvements.
App store reviews only get me so far.
Anyone using an in-app feedback system to talk to your users ?
For beta customers we use LogRocket to get a sense of how things are going. That's not an in-app feedback mechanism but it helps greatly with bugs or spotting ways to improve the UI.
For feedback on whether or not to build a feature I recommend a survey type system. Our product has collaborating with customers as part of its feature set so I can't speak from experience what survey product would be best for you.
Right, a kind of survey from my users is what I would be looking for.
For example, I see that Uclusion let's other developers vote on user stories, but wouldn't it be even better to let end users vote as well? Then you'd really get an idea of what customers want before building anything.
You can send a Uclusion initiative (not story) to customers. They are interactive and you can even control whether or not participants see each others responses.
The system also allows sharing a story with anyone for voting but that will share the whole workspace as well so we thought a top level object would be better.
As an example Instabug has this User Surveys feature, that seems to do what I'm thinking of.
It does NPS and custom user surveys but the pricing is a little steep for IH level.
I guess I could just build it myself and test it out.
Do you have 100+ users at this point?
I think you might be able to get more value if you just emailed them individually scheduled an hour long interview.
In-app feedback systems are kinda better suited for shorter-form questions (like when you already know your top 3-5 questions to ask)
In depth interviews are definitely a different value proposition.
My thinking was more along the lines of getting a rough idea of why my users are using the app and what they would like to see more of. That would give me an idea of where to put my focus, eventually preparing for those more in depth interviews.
I believe having a quick feedback loop on select users could give interesting results. But it doesn't seem to be in use very much, outside of the App/Play store rating asks.
