Are email newsletters still a good way to get started?

Howdy IH,

I'm curious to know whether creating an email newsletter is still a good way to get started with a project, or if the market is oversaturated. Email newsletters have always been popular and a good easy way to share content and build an audience. But with the popularity of Substack and other tools, it seems like the number of newsletters has exploded.

Last week I started a newsletter with a friend on NFTs. We kicked around a number of ideas in the crypto/NFT/gaming space and landed on an email newsletter as a beachhead.

Who has experience with email newsletters? And what is your take on the viability of starting another one?

I don't think that the medium in which you present your business is the important part. The important bit is where you are adding value. If you want to build a media company that focuses on NFTs, then it is a legitimate question to ask.

But if you're simply looking for the easiest way to gain traction with any business whatsoever - then chances are quite high that no platform will bring you success.

Simply put - look at where you can add value in the space! Once you look through that prism, some questions might be easier to answer.

P.S. I'm saying all that having just started a newsletter myself, haha.

Oh nice newsletter. That's the kind of info I like. Just signed up.

When my co-founder and I were brainstorming, we listed out a number of ideas and ranked them based on time-to-market, difficulty, our skillsets, etc etc

      1. Email newsletter
      2. Generative art NFT collection
      3. PFP NFT collection
      4. Complex NFT collection
      5. NFT + Gaming on Blockchain

(There are more details for each of these, of course, just keeping this as a simple overview).

Starting with the newsletter made sense because it was easy to start and can help roll into our other projects.

      Thanks for your input!

Ok, so you had it thought out quite well.

I'm unaware of the other players in the market but a newsletter for NFTs sounds like a good idea. I'd totally subscribe to something that educates and keeps me in the loop about NFTs (speaking as someone who only is vaguely familiar with that market).

A course on NFTs could potentially be a good option, too!

Let me know when you launch the newsletter! :)
