Are these names any good?

Hi Indie Hackers!

I just recently started a digital Garden called "the x". Let's be honest, it's not a great name.

I have some ideas floating around in my head, share your honest feedback:

  • Joschua's digital garden
  • Thinkering
  • Connected booknotes

As you can see, naming things is hard. And I might not be particularly good at it. I'd be grateful if you could share some suggestions below!

I think using your name as the brand is a good idea for now, especially since you have a somewhat unusual first name. Joschua's Digital Garden sounds good.

The first 100+ people who visit, will go there because they know you and want to see your new project. If you can create something that makes them share it widely and start building an audience, then you can determine what to call it based on that audience that starts arriving.

That's great advice. Thank you. ⭐️

The X seems fine as long as you tie it to something relevant like you did.

    What is "the x"?
The x stands for crossovers ✖️.
I am curious about connections. Likely and unlikely ones.
The x stand for collaboration. 🤝
This project is made possible by a bunch of generous patreons.
The x stands for the cross. ✝️
As I aspire to lead a God-centered life, I am challenged to view everything through a Biblical lens.
Also, it stands for unknowns. Join me in making sense of this world and discovering it's curiosities.

But I would just choose one. Imagine a reader telling a friend about your website and their friend asking why is it called the X. It would be difficult to list three things - but one thing would be easy! Reminds me of that tech article on Medium One Zero. https://onezero.medium.com/

Whatever you choose, just try to make a strong connecting to that name and remain consistent.

    Hope this helps!

      That's really helpful, thank you!

    why not? kinda cool.

Yeah, maybe … "The x" sounds a bit dramatic to me but glad you like it!

Thanks, that's handy. I like the hack of when it doubt, name it high in the alphabet.

Update: I settled on making it personal -- the domain I went with is joschuasgarden.com. Thanks for all the thoughts!

is it normal if I don't understand what is your website about?

    1. 1

That's fine! It's a place where I share my working notes on things I read or think about. Structure and topics emerge naturally, so that's what makes it a bit messy.
What would help you to understand better what it's about?
