ASK-IH: about note taking app

Jul @julius

Hi Indie Hackers,
I'm entertaining an idea of making a note taking app. Would you help me to understand more about the problem by answering the following questions:

  • Do you take notes?
  • What apps do you use for note taking?
  • What apps did you try before but didn't work? And why it didn't work?
  • How often do you take notes? When did the last time you take notes?
  • If you don't mind, what kind of notes do you write?
  • What is the problem you are currently having with your current note taking app if any?

  1. 1

    Do you take notes?
    Yes

What apps do you use for note taking?
    I have previously tried https://usejournal.com/
I recently signed up to https://www.notion.so/ though haven't really used it yet

What apps did you try before but didn't work? And why it didn't work?

    • UseJournal. My old iPhone couldn't keep up with the updates. Also, I personally find anything beyond simple to-do-lists & tasks, unnecessary. I struggle to find a pen-n-paper alternative!

How often do you take notes? When did the last time you take notes?
I journal pretty much every day, by hand. For blog/fiction writing, I tend to use CalmlyWriter.com or https://ia.net/writer

If you don't mind, what kind of notes do you write?

    • My personal journalling
    • blog article writing/editing
    • fiction writing/edition
    • to-do-lists / what i want to work on today

What is the problem you are currently having with your current note taking app if any?
    N/A, see above

  2. 1
    • Do you take notes?
      Yes

    • What apps do you use for note taking?
Currently I use Wunderlist, which although is not a note taking App Im so used to checking it that it works great for me.
And Bear for longer format, post drafets, archived notes.

    • What apps did you try before but didn't work? And why it didn't work?
I have used Evernote in the past. Too complicated/heavy/slow
Notes app from Apple. Shitty, too simple

    • How often do you take notes? When did the last time you take notes?
Every day. I take notes atleast every hours/2 hours

    • If you don't mind, what kind of notes do you write?
In Bear I tend to write posts drafts, long articles, notes from my studying, code snippets etc...

In Wunderlist anything that comes to mind when Im not at home, ideas for projects, things to remember to do, groceries to buy etc...

    • What is the problem you are currently having with your current note taking app if any?
      No one really.
  3. 1

    Do you take notes?

    • Yes, all the time

What apps do you use for note taking?

    • Google docs, and Trello

What apps did you try before but didn't work? And why it didn't work?

    • Evernote. It just felt annoying to use. It was like a worse google docs and a worse Trello combined.

How often do you take notes? When did the last time you take notes?

    • very often, though it depends on how you define a note. I write ideas and thoughts in Trello. Longer things go in google docs

If you don't mind, what kind of notes do you write?

    • Ideas, thoughts, class notes (still in college), planning docs,

What is the problem you are currently having with your current note taking app if any?

    • None really

Also, as an aside, the #idea-validation tag may be better for something like this than #ask-ih. I think #ask-ih is more meant for community beneficial questions instead of idea specific questions. So you might get better feedback with the #idea-validation tag.
