Audience / market research reports for wannabe bootstrappers

A weekly research report on a specific audience that covers the following:

  1. Summary of the audience / market. Numbers and trends
  2. Current frequent problems found in the market (using search data, community comments)
  3. Links to main communities
  4. Who the key influencers are
  5. A few ideas for business models that might address problems in point 2.

A few pages in a pdf (probably).

Free.

Who for?

  1. People starting out and can’t think of an idea want to start with audience first
  2. Existing bootstrappers / indie hackers looking for a new side project outside of their immediate network of communities.

Why?

I see a lot of “I want to build a business but don’t have an idea”

This should provide the spark of inspiration to dig deeper into an audience and maybe come up with a solution that they can build.

As it’s free, it’s not going to be crazy detailed and provide all answers. Enough to give a push in the right direction.

Have ideas for premium options to monetize and for sponsorship and affiliate partnerships.

I would sign up to get that every week.

What do you think?

Hey Paul. Great idea. And what if it was positioned around a problem?

Audience research, business models and existing communities could be used as evidence on why this might be a problem worth solving.

Maybe add evidence of people seeking help. (Forum posts, social media complaints, podcast interviews, etc.)

Recently heard a Dan Ariely interview where he wished for a Git-like solution for writers.

Hey. Yes, I think it could also work approached from a problem first.

Maybe, I can keep the weekly “report” less rigid.

So, some weeks it’s audience first (especially if an interesting trend in that audience and multiple problems worth highlighting) and then other weeks could center around a specific problem in the way you set out above.

      Nice suggestion. Thank you
