Audio is a powerful medium: Here's why you should get on it as a Course Creator

It’s no surprise that most people who engage in online courses (which is video-heavy) struggle to actually consume the content.

Not to say this for all, but many of us start an online course but don’t finish it, and we struggle to find the time even if there’s the intention to learn. If you look at a working professional’s day, there is simply no time to watch series of videos. And when they do, it’s in a passive manner.

People lose their focus after 6-7 minutes of watching a video. With audio, people focus for 30 minutes or longer. Interestingly, 80% of listeners also listen to entire podcast episodes. (More on these stats in the link below)

That’s why the same demographic of people spend on average 6 hrs a week listening to podcasts since they can learn while doing activities that don't engage with their brain.

People learn better while moving but not actively thinking. Taking this into account, it's important that we explore the possibility of creating more Audio Courses. And they don't just benefit on-the-go learners, but CREATORS as well.

Here's how Audio benefits creators:

1. It's the best way to stop self-censorship
It’s no secret that creators struggle with perfectionism, which is why writers struggle to finish their books. Audio removes that constant need to self-edit. Without the constant desire for perfection that comes with writing that first draft, creativity and idea generation flow quickly in more abundance when people simply speak their thoughts aloud.

2. It's a quicker way to churn out content
We speak at least three times faster than we type, right? I say type because we all know when we're writing, we're constantly self-correcting. With Audio, not only are we able to get 5000 words down in an hour compared to the usual 1500, but it also allows us to free-flow and voice our actual thoughts aloud and get them down ASAP.

3. "Imperfect" audio content = AUTHENTICITY
If someone makes a mistake in conversation or while they're speaking, don’t feel like you need to edit it out. Authenticity sounds better than forced editing anyway. There needs to be an emotional build up for something to digest with listeners. Audio lends itself well to storytelling

    Love this.
In most cases, stats show that course participants actually don't watch the videos. They listen to videos on the go. Reducing the need to spend 100% of energies listening opens the door to easier creation and editing and easier consumption.
Video courses need an audio version to help students learn with less effort.
