Book me for a free 45mins hands-on UX feedback session for your product (A 9y experienced product designer and developer) - Round 5

Hello fellow IndieHackers!

This is my 5th round of free UX sessions where I help fellow IndieHackers improve their product UX, with hands-on design feedback. So far I’ve done 50+ 1-1 sessions (round 1, 2, 3, 4) and all of them have been really helpful and fun! 🙏

On top of these sessions I also help the IH community by:

  • Designing my SaaS thinkoutloud.io in public with YouTube live-streaming where fellow makers can join me, ask questions and learn more about UX. (example)
  • Hosting live pair-design sessions where I design with fellow makers their product and help them improve it (example)
  • Tweeting daily bit-sized UX advice to help you get 1% better on UX, every day (example)

Book your session

What you get
45mins 1-1 Zoom video call where I test your product as a user and then come up with suggestions as a designer. You can also ask me anything throughout the session. There is no strict structure, so feel free to focus on whatever is most valuable to you🙂

What I ask (optional)
Ideally I would like to record and publish our session on my YouTube channel so that more people can see what I do and also learn through our session. Of course you will review the video before it gets published and I will make any edits you want me to.
However if you don't feel comfortable with putting yourself on YouTube, I am totally fine with that and we can do the session without recording it!

Why I am doing this

The story behind these sessions

  • On June 2020 I decided to quit my job (IH post) and started these sessions as a fun experiment to meet fellow makers from the community (IH post).
  • Once I did around 10 of them I realised that I really enjoy helping others with UX design and share my passion and knowledge. That's why I decided to keep doing them and see how it goes.
  • A few months later I realized the IH community really needs UX help and there is demand for that, which means I can build a community and products around this topic. So I went for it. It's fullfilling for me to help and teach others, so why not make a living out of it? 😍 I launched my first e-book on practical user testing and prototyping, and a productised 1-1 UX coaching service. So far I've made around 6.000€ of revenue which is a good sign and motivation to keep me going 🤩

How these sessions help me

  • I meet new IndieHackers and expand my network. It feels great to call with others and not stay isolated behind my screen. IndieHackers.com isn't just a business community. We are like a tribe with solid values and I want to make more connections with people that have a similar mindset.
  • I create more awareness of what I build without spamming people with ads or sell-ish posts. I put the time and effort to truly help the community and build relationships by creating value.
  • I get guidance on what free and paid content I should create. I do the audience-first approach. I observe what you struggle with when it comes to UX and provide practical content and tools to help you overcome these challenges.
  • For me teaching UX to somebody is not only about selling books. It's about seeing in their eyes the enthusiasm of learning something new and feeling grateful. These sessions have been really emotionally satisfying for me.

About me

I am an 9y experienced product designer with an engineering background. I built my own boutique design studio https://www.befoolish.co where I reached 120k annual revenue, I worked as the design lead for https://www.ticketswap.com a marketplace with more than 5 million users and I am now building my own products as an IndieHacker.
50% of my time I help fellow makers and teams with UX an the rest 50% I build my own SaaS, thinkoutloud.io

I can vouch for Jim’s skills and talent. I took up his offer for getting some feedback on my course’s landing page and within a few minutes, he gave me some very useful tips for improvement.

In hindsight, all of these things seem obvious and I’d probably already read them several times in books and blogs.

But Jim contextualised the same information for my specific situation, which made all the difference.

I can’t believe he does this for free. Make use of it!

      Totally agree. 👍

He has taught me about design live on YouTube, his tips are awesome and he has completely transformed how I think about design in a matter of 6 weeks.

Just grabbed a slot Jim, thanks for being so generous with your time and expertise. We haven't had a UX design eye on OpinionX since we got some mentorship at the start of summer 2020, so this will be really beneficial!

Happy to help! I 've seen you also share some resources around UX research here in indiehackers, keep it up :)
