Book recommendations?

As a new startup CEO, what books do people recommend for running incorporation?

I have just finished "Slicing Pie by Mike Moyer "

Update: Based on the recommendations below, I picked The Mom Test , actually completed it today.
Next, I am starting on Atomic Habits by James Clear.

Thanks again everyone for the advice.

Totally agree. One of the most practical books for one of the most valuable early founder's time investing thing.
Don't be foolish with early customers' feedback. Read/Listen "The Mom Test"

Thanks for your recommendation and I started reading this book. Half way through and without a doubt it's an amazing book.

"The Hard Thing About Hard Things"
    By Ben Horowitz

      Have to disagree here.

More useful for CEOs of large orgs than people starting solo founder or small companies.

      1. 3

If that's the case, I ll put this is book in my next year's plan 😁

100% agree here - I had high expectations for 'Hard thing' but didn't find it practical at all.

The Mom Test by Rob Fitzpatrick
Company of One by Paul Jarvis
Nail it then Scale it by Nathan Furr and Paul Ahlstrom

All very useful. Have to be quite careful with business books - I've found a lot aren't useful for bootstrap founders.

Finally, as a reminder of the importance of sleep which I along with many have ignored - Why we sleep by Matthew Walker

Few books have had as much of an impact on my life than Cal Newport’s Deep Work or James Clear’s Atomic Habits—focus and habitual behaviour are a powerful force multiplier.

On work, David Epstein’s Range is a great read on the future of your work in a generalised world and why you’re probably doing it wrong. Bill Walsh’s The Score Takes Care of Itself is a memoir and philosophy for work and life that really resonated with me (and I don’t even watch football).

On life, Ryan Holiday’s The Obstacle is the Way was my first introduction to Stoicism and I recommend it to anyone trying to find balance.

Shameful plug: I'm analysing 15,000+ book recommendations from the world's most successful people. It got #1 on Product Hunt this week! If you can't find some good recommendations here, I've failed miserably.

It's an online manual of some sort from the people at Basecamp. Amazingly useful:

    Read about sales and accounting.

    1. Jeremy Johnson from Salesloft shares great advice on sales - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeremeydonovan/

    2. Accounting - find a udemy course with great reviews and email them requesting a discount.

Both knowledge bases are incredibly crucial for being a successful business person.

I have been looking for some advice on accounting as well. Coming from totally technical background, I think that's a must. Thanks for your recommendation 👍

Shameless plug: I compiled book recommendations from over 100 founders a while back and launched it on Postmake. Most of the recommendations came from going through the hundreds of interviews here on Indie Hackers, but I also reached out to a lot of people on Twitter.

Along with each recommendation, I included the founders that recommended them so you get a better picture of each recommendation by learning more about the founders and their startups / companies.

    Here's the final list: postmake.io/startup-books

That list is awesome. I appreciate your research on compiling that list. Thanks a ton.

Depends on the company you're running, but if I had to choose just one book, it'd be The Personal MBA by Josh Kaufman. It's a great overview that packs in as much information as concisely as possible.

  10. 1

Perhaps not related but I've started reading Rich Dad Poor Dad by R. Kiyosaki.

  11. 1

I think "How Google Works" is a good choice.

      Great, thanks for the recommendation.
