So I have been in the house for the past here almost. Corona hit and got laid off. In the meanwhile I been trying to juggle between finding a job as financial stability is key, launching a freelance service ( extra income), preparing my food service idea for the near future. But been doing this while also my small daughter of a couple of months and wife are home and sometimes my other daughter and what a challenge it is :D
What are your thoughts to tackle this, best ideas. What to do and not to do?
Not because of that, but productivity-wise I even wake up at 4.20 to work when everybody is sleeping but not always is possible, as babies wake up early :D.
First, congrats on having a beautiful family that you get to work with & for 😄.
Second, what's worked for me is drastically lowering the threshold of what I consider a success. As a writer, I measure my output in terms of words written & published. When balancing multiple projects + multiple people being around, how can you lower your need-to-get-done list so that is only the most essential pieces?
Whereas 2-3k words a day use to be my benchmark for success, I've found that by maintaining a 500-1k daily goal + managing other duties has given me similar results w/ much less stress and work. Plus, I have more mental space and time to care for the duties in front of me.
Thanks. Yes, I feel grateful every day for them.
You are so right. I think about that all the time, focusing on what is the most important on the to-do list and not lower the expectations but instead focus on what is more important for the end goal is key here.
I have been applying this actually. I think it's just this new situation ( not the family one but the corona/laid off, etc ) that sometimes makes me wonder where is the best road.
Thank you for your words and keep on writing ;)
I know this. I think the key is "don't give up".
Take some rest. Your baby will grow up and begin to sleep deeper and deeper. Don't worry.
Thank you. Yes, I will for sure. I am on this route before corona, laid off and all so it's already on my system :). Was just curious how different people cope. Always good to learn :D
That's hard Ricardo - been in that boat.
Two things helped me in this situation.
Prioritize the top thing. In this case - it sounds like either a job or freelance should be your absolute focus. Better to work 1 mile in one direction than a few feet in three directions.
Lower your bar. Ramos mentioned this already, and its such solid advice.
Thank you Edward. You're right with the prioritizing. I am now focusing only on the freelance side for a couple of weeks at least. I think the fact that nothing is sure from one moment to the other leads you to try to go to any direction :)
