Hello all! I'm currently on a journey to complete 12 projects in 12 months after coming to terms with not being able to finish my projects. The aim of this project is to build a distract-free task and note-taking app, designed to keep you in flow.
What I did this week
- I've laid down the groundwork of the app
- I've built out the global nav bar
- I've built out the day view navigation
- I redesigned the day view navigation to accommodate switching between different days.
What went well
- I've set up next 12 to build this app. A somewhat unusual choice for a web app but the rust compiler, serverless functions and link prefetching are too good to pass up!
What didn't go well
- I redesigned the global navigation and the day view sub-navigation. I do not have the time to revisit any part of this process
- I'm dangerously close to falling behind in this project. This will be my first big challenge (and opportunity) to show if I can buck the trend of tweaking and adjusting rather than finishing.
What I plan to do next week
- Build out the daily tasks list component and get that wired up to indexedDB — a database that lives in the browser. (Great for when users are offline / using unstable networks).
Thanks for reading and stay safe
Keep moving forward.
@madebyaaron, love the UI, and the formatting of your weekly update! How's progress been going for you? I liked your idea of the tasks list component for flaky networks...
@rnjai_lamba, thanks for the feedback. I had to put everything on pause, sadly. A combination of working too much and outside factors caused me to burn out. I'm on a break at the moment but already feeling much better.
I'll be restarting this series when I'm back, hopefully with regular posts, videos and a podcast too!
Sorry about the pause and excited for what's to come!
Also, always up to chat about burnout as I've gone through it umpteen times and have built multiple coping mechanisms.
Hey @rnjai_lamba, I'm late back replying. I'm happy to report I feel I've come out of it. Just taking a little longer to make sure (I don't want to burnout immediately the second I start things up again!).
But I'll be posting on here as soon as I'm back. Hope things are all well your way!
Good to have you back and excited to see you in action! Yes, take it slow and remain aware of all your actions and you'll see that confidence build up.
I'm doing great and planning to close out research and validation on a product this month.
