Charging Retainers

Hey IndieHackers!

I want to start charging my clients retainers but a bit unsure how to go about it and making it a simple process for my clients.

Currently, my clients pay me via bank transfer and I simply write up an invoice and store it in Google Drive. No accounting system or anything like that.

Do I just ask my clients to set up a standing order to pay the retainer fee each month or is there a tool to automate this and send the client a receipt each month?

Thanks!

You can try PayPal's subscription payment service if that's applicable for your business. Personally, I use Freshbooks. They have a feature that can automatically send invoices to your clients every month, or other regular intervals. For an extra fee, they can automatically record payments if your client pays via PayPal or credit card.
