Cold email example that works?

Hi Everyone!

I want to cold email some prospect but I'm not sure how to go with it.

Do I email them with a problem + solution or do I email them with a problem first and when they reply do I provide them with the solution.

Whatever you do, keep it short. Really really short. 3 sentences.
You can always follow up with more information. In fact , factual information driven followups work better than "did you get this?

  2. 4

When it comes to email marketing I found out simpler the better. You should get straight to the point without using marketing phrases such as "this amazing new app". Just say what your product does in simple and plain English without emojis or long and annoying phrases. Get to the point and tell your prospect how you can help them achieve x by doing y. Good luck!

Just recently dived into this topic and wrote a blog post about it – hope you find it helpful: https://www.flowrite.com/blog/how-to-write-a-cold-email-a-step-by-step-guide

Read Samuli's post here - if you take one thing away from it, it should be this:

"Do your homework before sending a cold email to a person" -- it sounds obvious, but 99.99999% of the cold email I get (10-15 a day) don't take 2 minutes to even understand who I am, what I do, try to make a REAL connection.

      It's sage advice.

75% of your email can be templated but 25% of it needs to be personalized.

As someone who's sent well over 10,000 cold emails, I get WAY more success with the one's where I try to make a real connection. I'd rather send 5 good personalized cold emails than 100 that look like:

"Hi {First_Name}, I was browsing {Company_Name} website and I really like what you do and thought I'd reach out."

Examples/ideas how how to create personalization:
-go to their LinkedIn page - is there something you can mention about their university? Did they work at a company previously that you knew someone that also worked there?
-do they write blogs? Can you read a blog and create an insightful question from that blog that's relevant to your product/service?
-have they been on podcasts? Listen to 5 mins of that podcast, come up with a connection that way.

Here's an example of an email that I sent to maybe 15-20 SMEs. I probably had a 85% open rate and 60% response rate (I've changed names and companies):

        Hey {FirstName} – Happy Friday!

I just listened to the X podcast episode you did with Bob. I really enjoyed hearing about your zero to 1 journey at {Company}…can totally relate to your early days of tracking down prospective startups and getting them to hand you a $20 bill for access to {Company_Product} for a year – I love the hustle.

I honestly hadn’t realized how much {Company} has evolved over the years…until I hopped over to the site after listening to the podcast. I love the focus on capturing insight from all your customers that interact with.

I co-founded Proxii with the mission of using ML to transform help desk data into insight and insight into actions for product-led companies. Zendesk, Help Scout, Fresh Desk, etc. don’t even come close to the amount of customer insight and analytics {Company} is automatically generating for users.

We’re still in the early stages of building product with a couple of early clients and I’d love to understand your perspective and process for how you’re utilizing your internal {Company} customer data to create insight and insight into PLG experiments.

Are you around next week for a 10 min call? Just looking for some advice!

        Best,
        John Ladaga

His response: Hey John - Thanks for the note and for listening to the podcast. Usually these emails aren't thoughtful so I'm happy to spend 10 together to share some thoughts.

The company this SME works for is valued at over 500M and he was the founder...

The 10 min convo lead to a few more convos and him asking us if he could join our team as a strategic advisor...
