Day Five Without Twitter

Justin Hunter @polluterofminds

It's odd how big a marketing channel Twitter has been to me without realizing it. I dumped traditional analytics software a while ago because of the privacy implications of using most options out there. So, it has not been totally clear how much engagement with my personal site (and previously my company sites) Twitter has provided.

This makes it tough for me to stay the course. I think I can automate content distribution a little better and resolve some of this, but I can definitely feel a difference with me not participating in the Twitter discourse.

Additionally, today was the first day where I genuinely felt like I was missing out on world events. I know this is not logically true. I have news apps on my phone. But I felt like I might be missing out on something important regardless.

Nevertheless, I continue Twitter free into another day.

Hey Justin, I gave up Twitter over a year ago and created this app for reducing the Twitter FOMO:

I'd love to hear what you think if you end up trying it.

Keep it up! I bet you can make this permanent if you feel like it.

I also recently moved over to Mastodon. Let me know if you have any questions about that.

I like this a lot. If you can swing it, might be a good idea to include your own feed reader. I expected to have a feed show up after connecting but I realize you direct people to other feed readers.

I tried Mastodon a couple years ago but I find there to be two problems with it:

      1. The community is small
      2. A lot of the people who were booted from mainstream social media show up there and I don’t want to engage with most of them

Thanks so much for the encouragement and good luck on Filterss!

Thanks! Yeah, after launching I got a huge list of requests (feed preview being a big one) and I'm not sure when I'll get to them. I use Reeder for Mac and iOS, and still get value out of Filter RSS daily. Thanks for checking it out!
