Decided to build a Twitter-inspired Blogging Theme (WordPress)

Over the last few years, my writing has slowed down significantly. The reason for this sounds strange, but it's true...

I know too much.

As a founder and professional digital marketing consultant, I have a specific set of qualifications I have to run through every time I want to publish a blog post. Not just SEO, but CRO (conversion rate optimization), and long-term evergreen potential.

And as grateful I am for having these skills + knowledge... it has really kept me from writing regularly.

So I wanted to change that. I wanted to create a space for myself to write daily to:

a. reconnect with my voice
b. get better as a writer
c. get more efficient at organizing my thoughts in writing form

And as a designer, I knew that I couldn't just install a default theme and be okay with it. (I'm extra, I know.)

The them I needed was something super minimal and embodied the casual nature of my writing purpose. And seeing as how Twitter is my favorite social space... I took a little inspiration from it for the theme design.

And here's the Result.

It was a fun exercise to build a new child theme (built on Genesis Framework), and I'm really happy with the result.

No fluff. Nothing to fuss over. Just simple, easy to read, and fast.

I have no plans on selling it, but if you're a WordPress + Genesis user and want a copy of the theme, just let me know.

Thanks! Last week I decided to actually create my own minimal version of Twitter using the theme. If you're curious, take a look: https://post.dustn.co/

really cool. i'm finding this space odd:

... why not have it have the same width as the content?

Okay, yea... that was easier to fix than I thought. lol

Yea... I thought about that too... but never came back to it. I only wanted the posts to be that narrow, but pages to fit the full width of the parent container. I could probably make some post-specific CSS rules... I was just lazy on that part. lol

I'll go back and play with it.

        yeah. shouldn't be too hard.
