DevConcepts book journey - Week 1

After launching my project's landing + pre-order page last week (https://www.indiehackers.com/post/devconcepts-book-journey-kickstart-0c0a2eb71a), I've had a little break ;-)

Still, I'm moving forward. Here's what I've done this week:

I've fixed an issue with the Google Analytics integration caused by the fact that I was using an outdated Gatsby plugin. Bummer; I've missed the stats resulting from my various announcements on social media.

I don't get much traffic yet, but I'm not worried at this point. It's still very early on and I didn't invest a single dime in advertising. I'm not sure yet when will be the best time to do so.

For now, I want to focus on preparing the content.

I've used AsciiDoctor for my last book and was really pleased with the experience, which is I've hacked together a base template project (https://github.com/dsebastien/e-book-template) using AsciiDoctor, npm scripts, BrowserSync, and some other goodies to have a good authoring experience.

The build system isn't fully ready yet (I can't generate .mobi files for Kindle), but I'll take care of that later when I near the completion of the first drafts.

Next, I started working on the outline of the book, which is what I'm focusing on now. I need it to be able to structure the ideas and content correctly.

I've started with a Miro mindmap, but realized that we can close/expand nodes in the map, which is a real no-no for me. So I've moved back to MindMup, which is "nicely" integrated with Google Drive. At least it works just like I want ;-)

I've got a lot of work to do for the outline; I have the major "domains" set out, but tons of content to organize in there before I can publish the draft outline out for the world to see.

Finally, today I've published a new edition of my newsletter (https://twitter.com/dSebastien/status/1329536686192291841), explaining about the project and asking my readers for help.

This week-end, I plan on finishing the first draft of the outline. Then I'll update the landing page, pre-order page and make a few announcements about it.

That's it for today! :)
