Did you quit your job?

Hey friends, wonder how many of you actually quit your job? And what was or will be the key decisive moment?

I quit my job 3 months ago. I quit after I answered a strong "No" to my question "Did I enjoy, grow, or learn anything at work last month?"

    Yep, four months ago :)

I felt like I was wasting my time working (fixing bugs) on a stupid project that was going nowhere.

Focusing on something you don't believe is super hard, at-least for me it was.

I feel exactly the same, bro!

Yeah. I gave my notice last week. November 2nd will be my last day. After that, I'm going to immerse myself in learning how to start my own business.

I'm tired of trying to carve out hours for side projects. I've always wanted to work for myself. The timing is right. I'm going to give it a shot.

That's awesome! All the best for your next journey! Please keep us updated about it here :)

Yep, just over a year ago. Working on my own SaaS, and managing to find some contracting gigs through friends I meet up with regularly at programming meetups to keep the lights on. It was scary at first, and I'm not making nearly as much as I did before, but I have no regrets honestly. Much more freedom. Too bad I quit just in time for a pandemic to strike :/

Yep. Almost 5 years ago, with two startups since then. It has been a very interesting ride!

I just hit my 6-month mark this week. I was a Product Manager prior to jumping ship. I really liked my job, but I wanted to try and go off on my own and experience the rollercoaster of starting something from scratch. Also, I wanted the need to have to learn new skills at a rapid pace.

I just wrote a blog post about my experience and learnings thus far.

I quit a year ago to start freelancing full-time. I wasn't being challenged anymore. And I didn't see any future opportunities for growth. I was nervous about quitting to freelance. Even though I was working at an early stage startup at the time (which is inherently risky!) Then I realized that meant I had more faith in the founders than I did in myself.

That didn’t sit right with me. So I quit. And it 1000% paid off.

I quit my job in fashion three and a half years ago to start my own consultancy. This lead me to working with my partner building a digital marketing agency, and then building our own stock footage platform 💁‍♀️

    Zero regrets.

I realised I didnt want to be employed anymore when I was always struggling with less efficient and productive colleagues, together with a management who never rewarded hard work. I thought that if I was working for myself I could put in all the time and effort I want, and it would benefit myself and not some ungrateful owners who didnt even want to pay their employees a fair pay.

I quit my job 3 years ago for a number of reasons, first and foremost it was becoming too easy to do meanwhile the monthly income was reducing because HR Director tried to undermine me from the inside with the owners, it was clear that person wanted to replace me with a family member, I was of course freelancing and my income was 2x from that alone. After that, this person was fired and I landed that company and another one larger from the same owners as clients. So things pan out ok for me.

      What an interesting story :)

    Yep.

Quit my job once I stopped growing as a developer on my previous job.

And also because I was making more money working as a freelancer part-time than on my full-time job.

    Yes.

Discontinued all freelance customer contracts once income from products was enough to provide for my family during summer (low season).

I quit before I even had a plan in place.

Although I definitely wouldn't advise doing this, it definitely kicked my ass into gear.

Are you an indie hacker now ?

I quit my job and start-ups cost a lot of money to develop. I would suggest staying in the job until you can pay yourself to leave.

I quit my job over a decade ago to create a product startup that then pivoted into a consulting business after 6 months due to not knowing anything about sales/marketing at the time. :) Now my consulting agency spins out a product here and there...
So yes, I quit my job, but now have many jobs!
