Does building an audience work?
Honestly, I think that isn't really the question, is it?
Of course we've seen it work thousands of times on Twitter and everywhere else.
But just out of curiosity, I want to know...
How many of you have tried and (succeeded/failed) at building an audience?
The reason I want to explore this is that there are certain dogmatic beliefs in our startup/bootstrapper culture.
We each keep talking about it, liking it, retweeting it... Building an audience DOES work -- I bet very few of us would question it.
But a question that's rarely asked is how many people fail in even this step?
I voted "somewhere in between". I'm focus on building an audience for more than a month now, get 250 new followers on my twitter.
It's not so bad, not amazing either.
I really think it's an exponential process tho, the more you push the easier it gets.
Something I miss with IH is some sort of engagement group where we can support each others... (Kinda think of doing it)
I think this is an ongoing thing.
If you failed is because you stop. There is no finish line I suppose.
Building an audience is not easy. In building products, we have things like the MVP concept where we're encouraged to fail fast, experiment, and re-test.
But building an audience is a slow progress type of thing where many hours are invested in nurturing relationships, developing content that may or may not get read...
Really curious to hear what kind of results folks have had in creating an audience.
PS -- I suppose it's also possible to steal an audience, but I guess that's a topic for another day.
