Ditch static PDF and start using the interactive web!

I'm developing Flya, a product inspired by the BBC's "long read" articles that aims to offer an alternative to PDF and Email with rich, interactive and sharable HTML pages that look great on any device.

It doesn't make sense that we still share content in a way that mirrors outdated paper print or projector slide templates. Why can't documents be flexible to the device they are viewed on and not constrained by outdated medium?

Instead of sending a weekly report with static images, Flya allows you to share content with animated infographics, video, scalable images, carousels, responsive columns, links and much more.

It's a work in progress but I'd love to know what you think of the idea! Is this something you can see yourself or your team using?

Thanks so much for reading 🙂

(ps, I have a beta build of the app ready for testers so if you would like an invite please let me know or sign up on the link above!)

Pretty solid idea IMO. Not sure if this is the direction you're going, but I've done some work in the insurance space where large providers want to present a customer with an annual review of their portfolio. In the past they would send a mail with an attached PDF, but now it becomes a mail (or push notification) which links to a personalised (and secure) web "statement".

If you add security/authentication Flya could fill that need.

    Just a thought

      Hey @GregFullard,

This is exactly the kind of use case I want to hear about, a great example of where I believe Flya can be useful, thanks for sharing!

I had thought about giving users the ability to add basic HTML password protection to a project but your thinking goes a little further, it's defiantly something I will put in the ideas bank.

Thanks so much for the feedback 👍

I really find the concept interesting. It's a boon that you are leveraging technology to its fullest capabilities! A few considerations to keep in mind:

-4% of Americans (10 million people) still use dial-up modems for internet access (56.6k and under)

-.05% are still using Windows 98/2000!

-350,000 fax machines are sold annually

-Both the US Navy and UK Royal Navy are using Windows XP!

    -Physical book sales per annum: 22.6 billion dollars ;
-eBook sales per annum: 2.06 billion dollars

@c0nsilience, great to hear you like the direction! Some useful stats there to mull over, solid cross browser support essential. Regarding the print, fax and eBook data - I need to make sure I am very clear and targeting the right audience here.

      Thanks!

Ah thanks 🎉 If you want to get early access and give feedback for me then that would be awesome! If you sign up here https://flya.app I'll send you an invite 🙂

          Thanks again!
