"Please subscribe to the podcast, give us a rating and leave a review"
We hear it very often. I bet some of you are actually using a similar phrase to convince the listeners to take an action.
It's obvious that reviews are related to your show rankings in the podcast store. They can help you to reach a broader audience.
But my question is - how often do you read your podcast reviews and check your ratings? How do you actually do it?
As the reviews are scattered across different platforms and language versions, it seems like a lot of work even if done once per week or month.
Apart from show statistics, reviews are the example of social proof which you can use to grow your audience or business. 📈
So do you use your reviews actively?
I mean - by sharing them on social media, reading in your show, using on the website, etc.

Hey Rafal,
From what I've read and experienced, reviews help you mostly with improving your podcast ranking on the various platforms. Other than that they are a nice to have.
Personally, I prioritise listening experience over getting reviews, and have stopped asking on my podcast. A) Hardly anyone would leave one anyways, and B) for everyone else it's just annoying to listen to - which I can see from people dropping off when I brought it up on the first few episodes.
That said, I made that decision because I don't have many listeners (~140 DLs per episode at the moment). If I had more listeners then asking for reviews might yield more, but I'm more interested in keeping the episodes snappy and having people recommend them directly through word-of-mouth.
Hope that helps,
Thomas
Agree completely. I have about 50 listens per episode now and am 100% focused on the listeners being able to listen to the entirety of episode and stay engaged. I usually ask for direct feedback when I’m in contact with listeners but may try to pivot soon to get more podcast reviews.
Yeah, being able to stay in touch with your listeners directly sounds very convincing to me.
Again, quality wins over quantity :)
Hey Thomas, thanks for your reply. I got the point and really like your approach.
In short, it's about quality over quantity 🏆
By the way, do you mind sharing your show name here?
Sure, it's called Product Nuggets. Let me know what you tink :)
