Do you cold call? What cold calling resources have you used?

I have a B2B product, focused on a fairly narrow audience, that I’ve soft launched.

It’s soft launched in the sense that the marketing site is up and indexed on google, and the product is available for purchase. What I have not done is bought advertising, or posted it to various communities that might be interested, so I say soft launched. It’s not the kind of thing that would benefit from HN or PH, so no luck there, also my search rank on google sucks, so organic results are out of the window for now.

I’m planning on posting to communities this week, but it occurs to me that given that I know exactly who my potential customers are, the best thing in terms of effectiveness and cost may be to just pick up the phone and try selling.

But I’m a software developer, not a salesman, I’ve never done this sort of thing before. Have you? Do you cold call? If you do, how do you go about it? How effective do you find it to be? Do you use a script, and if you do, how did you develop it? Are there any obvious pitfalls to be avoided or tips you can give? Any advice would be appreciated.

    jf,

    You've got this!

Just pick up the phone and make a few calls. I promise, that while you may not see yourself as a "Salesman" that you've sold something in one way or another in the past. What's the worst that can happen? Someone says "no" and you move on? Who cares?! Plus you'll get some great feedback on what not to do the next time.

Feel free to reach out if you would like to discuss, as my background is in sales/customer success.

    Good luck!
