Do you ever find yourself having accidentally created something that already exists with a very minor extra feature?

Hey everyone, I'm new to the IH community and I recently created and shipped my first website that I hope becomes a commercial success. I've been iterating on it for weeks now, and now with the latest feature change it has frankly become "urbandictionary with tags". I still believe in the product and I have a plan for marketing it that I hope to execute on, but I was wondering if anyone had found themselves in a similar spot.

Yes. I've also seen products that do it all the time and are successful. Nothing wrong with getting inspired by what already works.

Thanks! Actually it originally started with communities, and then I was adding tags on top of those communities, but the way everything is structured I realized it would be objectively better to transform the communities into special tags instead. It's opendict.io, feel free to check it out but it'll be overhauled (mostly on the backend) quite a bit this weekend.

Also, I've had similar experiences to yours where I started development on something I thought didn't exist only to find out it already does afterwards. Is there a website to ask "does this feature/product already exist?"

Back in June I started development on this web app to do TTS for popular characters. I abandoned it pretty quickly when I realized the main challenge of such an app is doing the DevOps well. But since then I've seen a slew of 'AI TTS' apps. Namely an app called Parodist got pretty popular on ProductHunt.

Trust me, if you tried to get back into gaming recently you would not understand half the words they're using, lol. That's actually the problem I faced that inspired me to create this.
