Do you own your data?

I took part in a block-chain hackathon in 2019. The theme was to create a privacy-friendly and user-owned applications for people. This latest wave of apps is also termed as Web 3.0 / Society 3.0 apps.

To start with, I began to test ideas by developing a survey form and distributed it amongst friends, family and the group. This initial phase of data collection and idea validation by surveys has led me to question the current tools available in the market.

A simple search with "tool name" + "data breach" brought back hundreds of results. After reading through this, I did not find it safe and secure to protect the data we collect or the ideas or perspectives we get from them. That led me to build BlockSurvey in the hackathon. I got $8k dollars from Blockstack blockchain for the initial prototype and continued to build with my friends for the next 12 months.

Today it's LIVE on Product Hunt. 👉

I have just touched a single part of the digital platforms that we use today. There are a lot of tools that need to be developed.

I would like to hear Indie Hacker's thoughts on the following.

  1. How relevant is the ownership of data to you?
  2. Will the next generation of applications, by design, value privacy and be owned by the user?
  1. 1

This is something I've been exploring, and mainly using self-hosted (on DO) tools. Thanks
