Do you see potential in this webapp?

Hi guys, here´s the story: quite some time ago I developed Instanto.app, a webapp that allows users to transform their pictures into DIY instant-like photographs. Even if it was featured in Product Hunt, the reception was lukewarm and that discouraged me to properly market it.

I recently moved it into my design studio domain, since the Instanto.app domain will expire soon... but before giving up completely , I´d like to get your opinion if you see any potential in it, in case I decide to market and monetize it more aggressively. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I ended up re launching it just for fun https://www.instanto.app/

I give the design and UX very high points. Well done. However the concept does not seem to solve a major problem for me. It's easier for me to add similar filters to photos right on my phone. I would say, in its current state, this is a great showcase for your design/development skills but not a great business.

This is a really cool, well-executed app. But maybe it is sort of just a toy app.

If all that stands between you and letting it go forever is hosting / domain renewal fees, I'd be happy to sponsor it.

Reach out and let me know!

    Hey Fernando 👋

Here are a few thoughts I had after checking out your website.

    1. I didn't fully understand what your product was from the homepage alone. I presumed it would be a service that would print my photos for me. I didn't realise I had to print them and cut them out myself.

    2. I think before going heavy on marketing and monetisation, I'd try and understand the problem space more and work on your solution. It wasn't clear to me how this product would be useful to me or what problem it's trying to solve (caveat: I don't think I'm your target audience). Get out there and speak to your target audience and see first hand what they think.

    3. From a usability perspective, I liked the simplicity of it all. It felt easy to use and there was no barrier to entry so it literally took no time at all to get my download.

I agree with all points austerberry makes. I first thought it's a photo printing service like that of Google Photo. I do like the UX/logo/name tho!

I think it's well designed and good fun.

I was surprised with the output being a PDF to be printed and cut with scissors. I thought it was going to give me an image to upload to my blog/social.

This instant photo style (inset on white, text below, tilted, on a background colour) could be one of a few styles on offer. I can imagine bloggers or social posters might like to turn a photo into something a little more graphically rich in this kinda zero-config way you've set up. Something they could do in Canva, but the limited style options making it even quicker and easier.

Not sure about being able to monetise it though. Perhaps some ads/affiliates if the traffic was ever high enough. Or since it probably costs next to nothing to keep running, why not just keep it free, extend it when you've got free time and keep it as potential signposting for a new idea that you haven't had yet :)

Maybe if you made it simple for the user to connect to a printing studio after converting the pictures, to get the pictures printed and delivered to them at a competitive price.
You could get a cut of that, which would be substantial if you get enough traction.

I think this is fine as a hobby or side-project, but I think it will be very difficult to monetize.

    pretty generic, tough marketing.
Maybe niche it down to some communities (e.g., send a photo of yourself to your grandparents)?

On a separate note, you made me think of another idea: what about having a google extension that would (1) save for later key articles or webpages and (2) if not read within 10 days, sends them to you in a physical printed format. The marketing would be, relax your eyeballs and read directly from papers (hopefully recycled papers). If you feel intrigued hit me up and we can noodle on it?

Thanks so much everyone for such thoughtful feedback!
