Etymology, Insights, and Cultural Inspo behind the naming of Post Caddy

  • Why the name Post Caddy?

The name Post Caddy comes from the amalgamation of all the meanings behind the words of both Post and Caddy. It’s the idea of having someone or something in place to help with creating amazing branded customer experiences once purchased items have been shipped and are in transit.

The meaning of the word Post itself is three-fold in nature.

  1. First, there is post as in post-purchase or post-purchase behavior which essentially describes how a customer thinks, feels, and acts after they have purchased something.

  2. Next, there is the mail or post which is a system for physically transporting postcards, letters, and parcels — and where the terms post office and postal service are derived from.

  3. And lastly, there is post as in a social post, or a piece of writing, image, or other form of content that is to be published online, typically on a blog or a social media platform.

As for the word Caddy, it’s borrowed from the world of golf.

A golf caddy is the person who, in addition to carrying a player's bag and clubs, gives the player advice and support by being aware of the challenges and obstacles of the golf course being played, along with the best strategy in playing it — which includes knowing everything from yardage details, pin placements, to club selection.

In our instance, Caddy is also meant to take on a very similar meaning, but in the world of shipping — where the caddy is responsible for not just knowing the tracking information, but also being able to provide insightful details and engaging socially-shareable content around the item being shipped itself.

  • What’s the inspo behind the logo?

The logo in its design is straightforward as well.

On one level, it simply depicts the default standard method of shipping today — a corrugated cardboard shipping box.

However, the two visible sides of the box are also illustrated in such a way as to look like chat bubbles. This of course is representative of all the messaging that is sent out once a package has been shipped — which again, includes everything from the tracking information, to any insightful details and engaging socially-shareable content around the item being shipped.
