February Wrap-Up (All Welcome!)

Hey Hackers! Spring is only 3 weeks away! February came and went, super fast it seems. It's always good to learn a little about yourself by looking back at what you planned and how you responded to the inevitable monkey wrenches.

  • Did you hit your goal(s) for February? Pivot? Forward March? (pun intended)
  • What's on deck for this month, and how will you start things off this week?
  • [Optional] Brief description of project with link (if applicable)

I did what I planned in Feb and happy with the result!
For this month I want to improve the design and also add telegram reminder for the courses(so users can put a reminder for the course they are taking)

    New Week - new challenges!

We did hit our goals and had great talks with potential first customers 🔥

    Looking forward for this week:

    • Creating Content for LinkedIn
    • Getting the last problems fixed so that we start our pilot
    • Getting in contact with the press

These are our mane targets for this week 🤓

    Goal for February
My original goals for Feb were to setup a landing page and get some early signups for the Announcr Speaker App. This was pared down from finishing and shipping the Announcr Mobile App.

Somewhere along the way I realized it was awfully difficult to communicate what Announcr really was to people. This is my doing, as I've changed the focus of it several times. So in order to demonstrate what it could be used for, I decided to whip together a very small interface by which people could send in a test message to a specific Announcr Speaker. Then I began to post the link once or twice a week and keep making little changes to make it more useful, and more fun.

    This is what I shared

And this is what I ended up with

Every time I shared the link, I'd get a bunch of messages throughout the day. One guy even started sending me Dad jokes on the hour for a couple of days. It brought people out of the wood work, and the system has now generated about 1700 audio messages, though 50% were mine from testing. A few hundred were my daughter's friends sending hilarious things to her. It's been delightful addition to my every day life, and it's made a lot of laughs for the kids and their friends too.

So I've been making the system more fun and useful based on what people were doing. I wrapped up the month by making a channel creator which pushes out automatic content.

At the same time, I've been using the mobile app every time I go out, to generate location-based messages back to home base. It's been really fun to use it, and my kids appreciate it too.

Last week I realized that at this point in time I finally have the system I originally envisioned when I first asked myself the question.. "How could I get ANNOUNCED like royalty when I walk into Target?"

Except it's way more useful than I envisioned, with MUCH more commercial potential. The channel creator is.. wow.

So, for Feb, I totally released this month, on Windows, Mac, Linux. I kind of want to see if people will say "how can I get one" first (got one so far!), and also try to come up with an auto-updater.

I also revised the landing page, just didn't enable signups quite yet.

I want to make sure the system is stable before a lot of people use it, so a lot of work has gone into stability this past month. Finding and killing little "black box" bugs that pop up with long-running network-reliant apps.

    Goals for March

    1. Find 5 people who would like to create their own free or premium content channels, get them onboarded.

    2. Users need to be able to find and subscribe to free or premium content.

To make this work seamlessly in what is primarily an audio device, I have to pull off some tricks. Audio registration loop, coming up this week! After that, brush off the Stripe integration.

The March goal will roll into revenue goals for April; I have a revenue goal to make $100 from Announcr in April!

I won't joke in that I believe I've stumbled into something with ridiculous, enormous monetization potential. I'm excited to test it.
