Finding Twitter tough

I've recently started on Twitter and try to put in engagement time each day. Still, I feel like the interaction is a bit forced or obligated. I see that communities are under development; it seems like this would be a much better way to jump into a conversation.

Should I focus less on Twitter now and wait for communities to launch?

Right now, I feel like I'm spread a bit thin with getting work done and using social media.

Edit: for reference, this is what I mean when talking about Twitter communities

What communities? What are you referring?

Being a bit forced is not intrinsically bad. If you arrive by yourself at a party where you don't know anyone, nobody is going to say "Hey KFR3000, come join our group", you'll have to force yourself into one, and it'll be awkward and the awkwardness will pass and you and others will have a good time getting to know each other. Or you won't, and then you will move on to the next group.

If you avoid forced and awkward at all costs you'll be forever sitting on the corner by yourself.

Having said that, on Twitter I do feel that I get less than from other places. I respond to people and I post things, but I rarely get responses except from two friends and I rarely get conversations. For me it still feels like the party where I don't know anyone.

That's a very good point about getting to know people. I feel similar in the sense that if I tweet rather than reply to someone, it seems like I'm speaking to an empty room.

Yup. I feel the same way. I'll keep doing it, tweeting and replying until someone pays attention.

And yeah, there are days in which this hurts and I just want to flip the board and go home. It passes.

What do you mean by communities are under development?
