INTRO - You can skip to the "main point"
6 months ago I've launched my newsletter covering viral marketing case studies.
I've always been fascinated about the "hack the system" approach, e.g. why some people work 5 years to reach a goal, while others achieve the same results within weeks. - pretty much Tim Ferris attitude
I loved the idea of "Don't just work hard. Work smart and hard".
Since the launch, there were ups and downs - not enough time for work, my whole family got quarantined for COVID I needed to step in to take care of my grandparents etc. Life as usual - but I always believed if I just withstand it, I'll make it work.
1k/month is a small step for many people here. For me is a HUGE one!
Main Point
Last month was Black Friday. I gave a discount 50% off (from $50 to $25).
I got 23 sales from that.
After Black Friday I increased my pricing to $97.
I didn't do it without a reason.
I'm preparing a new additional product for my premium subscribers - Brainiac - a list of 150+ cognitive biases, principles, and models, with over 450 possible applications.
I talked with only a few people about it, but already got a few sales.
I give credit for that to pre-launch pricing and the demand for the product itself.
I guess, that's when you recognize you've chosen the right product this time.
Anyway, that's my lessons here.

Thanks for writing this and inspiring us. Congrats on your success. More than all those case studies in your newsletter, I would be really eager to learn about how you gained your initial set of paid subscribers.
Actually, I happened to collect 800+ free subs within the first 3 days of my newsletter.
The first 10 paid subscribers came from this source. I offered something you couldn't find anywhere else "high quality, viral marketing case studies and their strategies/tool/psychology, no fluff just meat"
There wasn't anything like it on the internet. I searched a lot for it. I wanted to buy it myself, but there was no one who could provide it for me.
Oh, and my paid subscription was for $15/year, which was a bargain
How did I get my first 800 subs?
I've launched my newsletter on PH - I did it very thoroughly and it worked
Thanks for sharing your success journey. A newsletter of this caliber at just $15 per year is truly a bargain. I guess you've gradually increased the pricing in the last 6 months.
yep ;)
I would argue if this was a good pricing at the beginning, but the one I have at the moment, with the value I offer is just right
I guess now you've got the experience and the connections to offer a premium newsletter service at a much higher price, well deserved.
Great work Michal!
Thanks! Appreciate that
Saw it on Reddit, good job! Curious about your monetization strategy. You basically have a free weekly newsletter but paid subs get 2 case studies/week?
Free newsletter receives 4 emails per month:
-1 free case study
-1 cognitive bias affecting your marketing
-1x social media news from the most recent week
-1 creative marketing examples
Paid newsletter includes:
