First customer 15k per year

I recently left the first startup i cofounded.

We didn’t have enough traction and I just stopped believing in the vision. A massive decision for me that I spent many sleepless nights deciding over but ultimately it was the right decision for me + the startup.

I was feeling super guilty: I’d left my cofounder in the cold and was worried that my next project wouldn’t take off - I had given up all of my equity when I left so I had nothing to show for a year of my life.

Rewind to a few months ago, while I was feeling nervous about the trajectory of the startup, I spent 1 day building a prototype of a simple tool. My motivation at the time was learning how to code - only a tiny part of my motivation was to build a product. It was 4 inputs and 1 output- super simple, looked terrible. I sent it to a friend who works in the industry.

He responded saying that they were actually looking for something similar at his company. Interesting!

Fast forward to last week, I’ve just got the go ahead from my first enterprise customer for a GBP 15k per annum subscription for an MVP I built in 4 nights.

Super proud, super stressed. A small small win but nothing like the feeling of getting your first customer!

Top tip:

  • don’t be embarrassed about having a terrible MVP!
