Free/cheaper alternative to Intercom?

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a free/cheaper alternative to Intercom?

I was pretty happy with it, but we graduate from their early stage program next month, and the new plan will cost us 4x what we are currently paying.

Best,
Dave.

I'm on the free crisp.im plan and it's working great so far. May upgrade so that I can see full conversation history, but looks pretty affordable.

    1. 3

Same, I've been using crisp for years. Never been disappointed

I'm on Crisp (paid). It's good, not quite as polished as Intercom. If you're on the fence, the Intercom startup trial ($49 for 12 months) is a good value.

If you're early just do the Crisp free plan though. It's like 85% of the feature set of Intercom and much cheaper. Don't waste money early on.

Support a fellow indie hacker @richardchu by using Letterbase

Thanks @alex_b_h I will check it out for sure!

Founder of Letterbase here. If you end up trying it out, let me know if you have any feedback. I'm always looking to improve the product!

If you don't need a live agent, I built Formito.com to start a conversation with website visitors, display information, or collect data.

You can check a real example on https://formito.com/tools/favicon

Thanks @facha! Will definitely take Tawk.to for a spin!

  4. 2

I am not using it yet, but tawk.io seems like the best free option based on my quick research. Good luck!

I am using FreshChat. No issues so far. I haven't tried many tools apart from it and Intercom, which the latter can get pretty expensive.

    1. 2

I am also using FreshChat (for FREE) and it can be easily integrated with FreshDesk to convert a chat into a Support ticket. If you want to engage with the customer based on user behaviour you can easily achieve that with the Paid plans.

you are very welcome, I am using it on wickedtemplates.com if you want to see it.

I like the fact there's an app...and I can actually answer when I am out and about.

Cool looks good. Your product is also pretty neat!

Intercom has some good features but let’s call a spade a spade - it’s one of the most expensive customer support tools out there. If you are looking for a free/cheaper alternative to Intercom, I would recommend ProProfs Help Desk (https://www.proprofsdesk.com/). The tool offers features such as shared inboxes, canned responses, workflow rules, knowledge base, live chat, etc., and comes with a forever free version.

Hey Dave! I totally understand where you are coming from. Intercom is one of the most expensive customer support tools out there. If you want the best band for the buck, you can try ProProfs Help Desk (https://www.proprofsdesk.com/). The tool comes with features such as shared inbox, internal notes, canned responses, automated ticket routing, real-time reports, and more. The best part is that it comes with a Forever Free plan. Check out here:https://www.proprofsdesk.com/pricing/

I have been using proprofs.com/chat for over 2 years now, earlier I was using its free plan for almost 4 months, since then I am on their paid plan. You may try them, quite effective.

I use to use Crisp, but started using SmallChat (https://small.chat/) since integrated into Slack.

We do have free plan at LiveAgent.com, you might want to check out. Tawk is just a chat, you might benefit from ticketing/calls and plenty of automation. Anyways if you want it more for sales and want to include email marketing as well, Crisp was mentioned here and can really save you a lot of money.

Thanks @MarketingPlayer I will take a look at LiveAgent!

We use the free tier of Drift -- it's not the best product out there but it's comparable, especially for their live chat widget!

    1. 1

Thanks @daveschatz, will check Drift out!

  14. 1

Good move, Intercom is so expensive for no particular reason.. I switch to Drift + Helpsite (not as good looking but I was just looking for an easy way to do Help Centre) for free.

It really is. Thanks for the recommendation @jessicaleo!

Currently using free HubSpot tools. Considering their bundle which is $50/month but requires a 12 commitment. It is “heavy” though.

Thanks @goodpointdustin, I will have a read now!

I'm using tawk.to and like it a lot!

Thanks @marchesejack!. tawk.to seems to be a popular choice on here, so I will start trialing it later on today. :)

    Tidio and Crisp are nice.

I saw https://www.chaskiq.io posted earlier from a indie hacker, but I haven't tried it myself. Maybe it is worth checking out

Will have a look, thank you!

Followed your post! I'm also interested. But I heard Zendesk is very popular.
