Hey! That sounds cool. I thought that get advice was mostly for tech people and tech advice. I'd definitely give it a try and give you feedback and testimonials.

Hi, it's related to tech and entrepreneurs trying to build tech solutions too. I'm trying to find more people like warren but isn't easy.

Yeah, I can imagine. Competent people usually already do this for a living, working in incubators, startup studios or VCs. Why would they do it for free on techadvice?

Sometimes they offer it for specific cases like under-represented founders or covid-like crises. If they are specialists working as an agency or freelancers, they of course expect to get business from it and then the advice has chances to be biased.

Unless it's a more peer to peer thing, entrepreneur to entrepreneur, which would actually be really cool to me as it's a need I have. I'm also ready to brainstorm with a founder on his case for 30 min and brainstorm on mine for 30 min. A bit like a language exchange session where you help people learn your language and get help from them in their language.

YC's startup school does it in a way with their weekly group sessions but it involves 4 or 5 startups and in one hour, you don't really have time to get into the specificities but just to pitch your startup.

Sophia, I really appreciate you sharing these thoughts with me.

Regarding your first question about "Why would they do it for free on getadvice?", it's actually one of my main concerns. It's not my intention to convince anyone that they should be doing this, in fact, the aim is that you should only do it because you enjoy/want it in the same way you answer a question here or in StackOverflow, etc.

Let me tell you what drove me into building this.

For a long time, I've been doing this free consultancy thing with friends, colleagues, and ex-customers just because I enjoy the challenge and get excited about hearing new problems and think about how to solve them.

In the about section, you can read a little bit more about why I do it, but here are the main points:

I’m on tech and earning money thanks to the free time donated by others. I’m talking about:

          • Linux.
          • StackOverflow answers (Try blocking it for 24 hours 😏).
          • Frameworks.
          • PHP/Python/GO libraries.
          • Blog posts.
          • Not for making money.
          • Help others Devs/Entrepreneurs.
          • Networking.
          • Improve my presentation skills.
          • Problem-solving training.
          • Hear about what other people are building.
          • Review tools and knowledge that I might not use too often.

I'm not saying that anyone should agree with me in any of these arguments, you can find them valid or not and that's fine and I'm open to include new reasons if that's the case.

It's actually a more peer-to-peer thing and volunteers can reject a call if they don't think they can help that person or don't like them, etc.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to reflect on this and I'm more than willing to keep the discussion going here or in even in a call if you would like it.

Sure, it totally makes sense. Thanks for this additional info. I didn't see the "why" page on the website until now.

I understand the whole paying forward mindset. Somehow it felt like Office Hours with an expert and I didn't feel this sense of P2P community straight away when I read your post or visited the page. I'd like to register as a volunteer but I'm not considering myself as an expert in a field but rather want to brainstorm ideas and share my experience with fellow entrepreneurs. Again, just sharing my thoughts out loud :)

Anyway, it's a really cool project and I'm looking forward to speaking with Warren!

Hi Sophia, again, thanks for your thoughts on this. I'm aware that the messages on the site might not be as clear as I would like to and your feedback will definitely help me to improve it.

If you have a medium/advance level of experience creating products I'm more than happy to have you on the site as a volunteer.

I hope your session with Warren goes great!
