I've been considering doing freelance work. The problem for me is that when looking for work from places like UpWork, the price for gigs are so low that it's quite impossible for me to do them.
I hear that complaint a lot. You should look for a platform that allows you to promote your individuality and allow you to set your own rate. That way you can control the story around your rate and promote yourself / be put in front of an audience that matches your skills. It takes a little more work upfront but the pay off is much greater and you can become sustainable / independent
Yeah, that would be great but somehow I think these kinds of platforms don't exist. Any successful platform in this space will always become crowded with people with extremely low hourly rates.
So that leaves me with setting up my own portfolio and promoting that I guess.
Currently less than 1/4, as I still work full-time. In the next 3-5 years, I would like to get to a point that the majority of my income comes from freelancing - putting me back in control of my time and schedule.

Maybe I should be looking from somewhere else.

Absolutely, drop me a message when you're at that phase
