Getting lucky with posting on Hacker News

  1. 2

I got 'lucky' with posting on HN as well. It seems they're a moderated community, with 2 main mods deciding what goes on the front page (unlike something like Reddit).

    Cool analysis, thanks for sharing!

I absolutely LOVE HN, I recently submitted a link to my most recent blog post and it went viral, I was so pleased! Now at 3000 views for: Carbon Capture, Usage and Storage: The Solution to the Climate Crisis?

This is great! It’s always felt like a crapshoot to post on HN. My first real success came with Graphite Docs and I, on a whim, posted a Show HN when I launched. I had no karma and yet I got incredibly lucky. It was on the front page for two days. I’ve never been able to replicate that success again.

Thank you for the analysis and breaking down all the details, especially the best time for posting -- morning time is better, I posted once about PoW and PoS in AM and it did end up on the first page.

What do you think of the title and content wise? Any tips?

    Interesting read!

I'd be interested to know the karma score the people posting those 1-2 vote stories hitting the homepage.

Unfortunately, there is no way to obtain this kind of information :(

Via the API you mean? User karma is on the HN website, shouldn’t have changed much since the posts were submitted.

For the small number of posts I’d be happy to do it manually 😁 if you have a list of those posts.
