Hey IH,
After @csallen and @channingallen introduced invite codes to the community, I’ve gotten a few random cold emails from people asking for a code.
Here’s one I got a bit ago for reference.
My guess is that I should ignore these emails, correct?
Thanks for your help and guidance.
Up to you to decide how to use your invite codes! You can ignore the emails, or you can ask the people about their background and why they want to join. Ultimately, I think you should look at yourself as responsible for the people you invite to the community.
Thanks for the guidance!
Yeah just ignore them. But how do they got your address? Is any mail address entered in IndieHackers publicly accessible? This should only the case for logged-in users (which would solve this problem in the first place).
👍 If you agree, so that @csallen and @channingallen can see this.
There's a feature to show an email address to the public, but it's optional. It would be interesting to have a flag to only show this to logged-in users. Anyway, soon we're going to introduce direct messaging, which should obviate the need for this.
Nice @csallen, thanks for the follow-up ❤️
That’d be great. Thanks.
Hmm, I’m not sure. I might’ve left one in a post of mine way way back.
Thanks for letting me know.
I got one too and ignored it and it was indeed unprofessional. It looks like they don't know the basics of cold emailing.
Exactly. Makes me roll my eyes so much.
And they're wasting their time if the want the invites only to self-promote.
Yep.
