Growing Facebook Page from 0 to 1400+ likes — 2 months as an introvert
Introverts are not shy people. Though socializing drain our energy. With less meaningful social interactions, I get exhausted very quickly. When possible, I'll find an alternative way to achieve a similar result rather than socializing.
Last year, I worked on a job listing project that connects graduates with startups. The target users are very active on FB, especially jobs and internship related groups. So I decided to focus on building FB audience.
The goal was to get a couple of hundreds of page likes. Starting from scratch, it was boring in the first few weeks. No likes, no shares, low engagement, even low for FB ads.
Then I started looking around, learn, and twisted the content. After 2 months, the page reached more than 1400 page likes and followers. Not huge but a reasonable milestone.
Here are 3 things that help to increase my page engagement:
1. Create more entertain posts
Early on, I only think about posting job links. The problem is, visitors won't share or react to it. They either move on to the next post or leave the page afterward.
Then I looked at SEEK - a big guy on the field. They don't ever post jobs on social media. Instead, they post jokes, quotes about jobs. Which entertaining, and people are more like to share/react.
So I started posting jokes about work and saw the engagement increase.
2. Use illustrations to increase engagement
The jokes and quotes were fine.
Though I remember seeing posts with illustrations often have more engagement. So I started putting pieces of illusions from undraw, combined with funny quotes.
Later, I added an "Office 101" tag on each post as a signature.
This post reached 55,763 people, got over 1,151+ shares and interactions organically
3. Share it where users hang out
When it started to work, I thought about amplifying it — share those jokes and quotes on job-related Facebook groups.
I remember sharing the first post, just before having a nap, seeing people like and share the post was a thrill. I couldn't have a nap after that. The numbers growing every minute. Within 2 days, there are 400+ people who like the page.

Those 3 tips might not work in every situation, but the main points are:
- Find ways that work for you
- When don't know what to do, learn from the big guys or elsewhere
- Offer something different from your peers to kick start
P/s: Just today, I found out those illustrations are being used by recruiters 😆
Being an introvert myself, I find it very difficult to push my content specially on Facebook. I remember back in 2012 I created a Football page and grew it too 10K likes. I did that by joining groups where people don't know me personally.
Collaborating with other helps a lot. I used to help others with collecting and formatting data about transfers, salaries and in return make them do some illustrations for me 😅

That's impressive that you grew to a 10k likes. What is your advice for anyone who started out growing a FB page?
Being persistent and providing something that no one else does. What I used to do was collect latest headlines from a number of top newspaper (mirror, goal, etc), compile them nicely in a way people will get the most out of it. And I won't give that content to anyone for whatever in return :D It would take me around 2 hours and used to be my flagship content. I would post that every day, get a lot of engagement and people would share that in other groups.

Yeah and you can use a similar tactic in your niche. Try to stand out, find a formula and repeat it.
